Product Teaser (sound on ??)
Hey! ??
During the last couple of weeks me and?DX team have been working together on a product teaser. We went through product discussion, storyboarding, animation and music exploration, copy iterations and many other stages. It was quite interesting challenge. We decided to use dynamic background music. It meant I couldn't work on the animation as I always did.
When you use dynamic background music for the animation like percussions or something similar you want the animation to be synchronised with the music. Both the music and the animation should feel like one solid object. They should complement each other. One must be part of the other.
It was quite important to choose the right track. I decided to start with the music. At first, the animation should be synched with beat rate and I also think it's easier to adapt animation rather than music. However, we will come back to this part later.
We found the great track. And it was perfect! The beat rate was good, it was expressive enough and the length felt right too. However, it doesn't matter how perfect the track feels at first sight. If you want to build the animation which matches your purposes, you'll need to edit the music as well. So, I believe, if you wanna reach a good result, you can not just create the animation and then find a track which perfectly fits. I also think, it's not right, if you build the whole animation based the music 100%. The golden middle is the solution for me.
Based on the experience I've got during this project, I would advise to explore music "kits". It is an archive with parts of a track (samples 5-6 seconds). You can combine those parts to build your own version. It allows you to be flexible with the music. For example, if you need additional 4-6 seconds for one of the parts of your animation, you can just repeat the sample and the music becomes 4-6 seconds longer. Everything depends on your imagination and needs but believe me, you can create completely new track, if you want to.
I spent some time to go back and forth to edit the animation and music. But eventually, I built the right samples sequence and adjusted the animation, so both parts felt as one inseparable entity. However, let me know what you think about the result.?
